Last year Belgrade beer festival :
OK - so I made it to Belgrade at the weekend, and ’twas mighty craic indeed. The purposes were to see the city and of course, visit the Belgrade Beer Festival.
After an overnight train ride up from Skopje we arrived, ate a declicious pancake breakfast, and promptly met a Serbian girl called Ryana who became our guide to Belgrade. Belgrade almost seems like a bigger version of Belfast - but I was mighty impressed with the trams, which seem to be absolutely everywhere! Anyway, went and saw some of the sights, the fortress, the Krajah Alexander, and then went to a pub for a drink of the local Beogradsko, which was refreshingly tasty after too many weeks of Macedonian beer.
Of course - aside from the beer festival, I really wanted to visit the legendary KST club - metal capital of the Balkans. Which I did. While the music was great, ranging from Ska to Cradle of Filth - the turnout was extremely poor, due to the fact that everyone was at the beer festival. So after a few more brews, we decided to join them, and myself and my catalan friend got nicely toasted, and had a mostly great stumble home, lasting about 2.5 hours, including a food break. By the time we got to the hostel, the Belgrade rush-hour was underway.
After sleeping through a day of sightseeing - we went for a walking tour of the city, along the banks of the danube, got some food with Ryana and went back to the beer festival. Sadly though, we arrived later than I would have liked, not really leaving me enough time to get comfortably toasted. Instead ended up drinking too fast, which left me terribly hungover and uncomfortable on sunday. So we had a tasty pie with Ryana, a couple of coffees (which only added to the confusion in my digestive system), and saw a few more sights before hopping on the overnighter back to Skopje.
Overall, good weekend! Coulda used more beer and KST time though!
